Cyprus is full of rental cars ,not all are what they seem ! Most company's are perfectly fine BUT some will tell you anything to get the deal .
make sure the car is on a red plate or Z plate ,this shows it is a registered vehicle with the Cyprus government . Check the insurance and the excess for that policy is clear , some cars do not have of road cover ,
OOPS WHATS THAT THEN you are asking yourself , Well some roads in Cyprus do not have tarmac on them , they are just wide dirt tracks , these were the main roads in times gone bye , for instance if you wanted to go to the akamas region this is of road , but you can drive there but if you broke down or had an accident you may well have to pay for the recovery of that vehicle so check , check ,check .
It is law in Cyprus that you wear your seat belt ,and do not use the mobile phone . also speed cameras are very big here so watch your speed ...
Hire car company's will take credit card details to cover fines etc ..
Petrol in the car is another grey area , some cars are full when you get them ,some tell you to bring the car back with the same amount as when you get the car ,, again another grey area , so be careful. Cars are a must here because there are so many wonderful things to see but are spread apart a bit , but you can always fly and flop by the sea or by your own private pool , have a great holiday in Cyprus..
